Carpenters Building Relationships In West Coast Beach Community, Not!
In order for organize construction labor unions to turn around the downward trend in market share, they have to build a positive relationship with local communities. Rank and file carpenters throughout the country are discouraged at the direction General President Douglas McCarron is taking the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners. Throughout the country, members are attempting to make a difference at personal risk. The UBC has filed trumped up charges against leaders of these insurgent groups expelling them from membership, and denying them the right to hold office or attend union meetings. CCDU, Buffalo, New York
I attended a meeting this Saturday of the dedicated union carpenters of the CCDU in Buffalo, NY. Even with all the intimidation and coercion by the NRCC, there is still a strong core group. Their have been two election petitions filed, with the unit hearings scheduled next week. With all the Unfair Labor Practice Charges filed, the elections will probably be held up until they are settled. STRUGGLES OF THE RANK & FILE UBC MEMBER
Throughout the United States, numerous groups of dissatisfied rank and file carpenters are meeting together and reaching out to Respect Our Crafts and other labor organizations for assistance in their attempt to bring back their local democratic unions. These are not easy decisions for these carpenters.
